Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
High Potential and Gifted Education
Some of our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) students from Years 2 to 6 recently had a wonderful time participating in the Shadow Judging program for the Children's Book of the Year Awards.
These students engaged with six shortlisted picture books, examining them critically and evaluating them against the judging criteria. This activity not only enhanced their analytical skills but also encouraged them to discuss and debate the merits of each book.
After thoughtful deliberation, the students voted on their favourite title and collaborated to create a creative response, showcasing their interpretation and appreciation of the literature. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in the world of children's literature while developing their critical thinking and teamwork skills. Starstruck
At Minmi Public School, students have the exciting opportunity to be part of our Star Struck Performance Group. Each year, we audition to perform in Star Struck Newcastle – a spectacular showcase of song, dance and drama that brings together schools from across the Hunter and beyond. Being part of Star Struck builds confidence, teamwork, and performance skills, while giving our students the thrill of performing on a professional stage. Families love seeing our students shine, and it’s one of the many ways our school helps students explore their talents and passions.
Premier's Spelling Bee Competition
Every year, our students eagerly step up to take part in the Premier’s Spelling Bee, an exciting opportunity to strengthen their spelling and vocabulary skills. Representing our school in this prestigious competition, they embrace the challenge with enthusiasm and pride, gaining confidence and a deeper love for learning along the way. It’s a fantastic experience that brings out the best in our students!
Zone Public Speaking Finals
Our school provides students with valuable opportunities to develop their confidence and communication skills through public speaking. Students are encouraged to take part in school-based competitions which can lead to opportunities to present at regional public speaking events. This gives students the chance to showcase their ideas, build resilience, and engage with wider audiences. These experiences not only strengthen critical thinking and presentation skills but also inspire leadership and creativity, preparing students for success in and beyond the classroom.
